Arguably the most famous steam locomotive in the world, LNER Pacific ‘Flying Scotsman’ descends the gradient from Dunfermline, Fife, whose Abbey and Palace looms large, with ‘The Cathedrals Express’ afternoon excursion for Steam Dreams. Designed by Scottish railway engineer Nigel Gresley (1876 - 1941), the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London and North Eastern Railway company for 18 years, 'Flying Scotsman' was built in 1923 and became the first steam engine to officially record 100mph, in 1934.
