WA Fairhurst & Partners of Glasgow and Dundee designed the Tay Road Bridge under the direction of founding partner William Albert Fairhurst (1903 - 1982), an English civil engineer and international chess master who won the Scottish Championships a record 11 times in 30 years. Opened 55 years ago on 18 August 1966 by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, the Tay Road Bridge replaced the old Tay ferry to connect the City of Discovery with the Kingdom of Fife across the Firth of Tay which reflects the clear blue skies in the hot midsummer sun. 17.07.2021
