The Scott Monument, City of Edinburgh was inaugurated on 15 August 1846, six years to the day after the foundation stone was laid, to commemorate the life and works of the historical novelist, poet, playwright and historian Sir Walter Scott (1771 - 1832). Towering over 200 feet high, it overlooks Waverley Bridge and Edinburgh Waverley railway station, both of which were named after Scott's Waverley Novels and is photographed here a couple of days after its 170th birthday. 17.08.2016
